Instructions

    • 1

Connect your computer to a telephone line.

    • 2

Click the Vista "Start" button. Scroll to "All Programs," and then click the button that says "Windows Fax & Scan."

    • 3

Follow the instructions to install the Windows Fax Setup Wizard if this is your first time using the program. You'll only have to do this once.

    • 4

To send your fax, go to the fax tool bar, and select "New Fax." Enter the name of your recipient and their fax number. You can import these contacts from Microsoft Outlook if you like.

    • 5

Enter the fax message. If you want to add a file or include pages from a scanner in your message, click "Insert." Finally, hit "Send," and your fax will be transmitted.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the person you want to send your fax to doesn't have a fax machine, consider saving your document as a .pdf file and emailing it to them. They can then open the file using Adobe Acrobat and read the message on their end without the use of a fax machine.

  • The Fax & Scan applet is only available in Vista Business and Vista Ultimate editions. It is not included in the Vista Home versions.
