Instructions

    • 1

Clean your surface. The first thing you need to do when choosing Danish oil as the finish for your wood surfaces, is to make sure the wood is clean, free of debris, dirt, oil, paint, varnish and any other agent that might get in the way of a perfect Danish oil finish. Be careful if sanding or scraping old paint because it may result in exposure to lead dust or fumes.

    • 2

Color test the Danish oil on a hidden piece of wood before you go about your general application. Danish oil comes in a variety of stain colors as well as natural clear. Once applied, rather than sitting on the surface as paint does, Danish oil will seep into the wood. In other words, if you don't like it once you apply it, it will be too late. You'll be stuck with it.

    • 3

Use a clean rag, to flood the surface of your wood and rub it on generously, being sure to coat the entire surface you wish to treat. Wipe off excess that gets other places than the wood you are treating, with a damp cloth. Allow the treated area to sit unbothered for 30 minutes.

    • 4

Reapply the product to the wood again after thirty minutes and allow it to sit for 45 minutes unbothered.

    • 5

Wipe excess oil off of the surface with a dry cloth and allow the surface to cure for 8 to 10 hours at which point you can either begin using it as it is, or you can apply a topcoat of clear oil based or water based Varathane, following the instructions of the Varathane.
