Things You'll Need:
- A list of necessities
- Accesories
- An inventory of your closet

Step 1
Maternity clothes are expensive. Babies are expensive. Don't bother spending lots of cash on clothes you will only wear for a few months. First inventory the items you already have. Button front cardigans can be used throughout your pregnancy to layer over a plain maternity top. Recently "baby-doll" style tops became very chic. They leave enough room in the belly area to be work through the first trimester. If you look carefully at what you already own, you may be surprised at what you can continue to wear.

Step 2
In the first trimester you may not want to head strait for the maternity wear. Try to purchase a few items in sizes larger than what you normally wear and with elastic waists. You will use these not only in the first trimester but also after you have the baby, unless you are one of the very few that walk out of the hospital in a size 6. If you plan to breast feed look for tops that button up the front.

Step 3
For the second and third trimester make a list of necessities. Some of the items on this list should be black dress slacks, at least one semi-formal outfit, jeans, etc. Purchase more tops than bottoms, you can wear black slacks to the office more than once a week. Pick a semi-formal outfit in a dark color that could be worn to a nice restaurant, a wedding, etc. There is nothing worse that looking for a nice outfit in a time crunch when an unexpected event pops up. Jeans are another item that can be washed and worn over and over so you will probably only need a couple pairs. Stick to basic mix and match items. You can wear them over and over but change the look of them by layering them with unbuttoned cardigans and accessories.
