My cable modem wasn't working and it took me for ever to figure out what was wrong. To avoid that, consider these options.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Surfboard Cable Modem (not working)
  1. Step 1

After talking to a Geek in India, I found out that a few simple solutions can solve most problems. The first thing to do is check the lights on the modem and see if any are working properly.

  2. Step 2

There should be 5 green lights and 1 orange light on. The orange light is the standby light and it should be blinking. If the lights are off, check the power source. Two things could be wrong; the cord is not completely connected to the modem or the cord is not plugged into the power source. Check both.

  3. Step 3

If your lights are on but you cannot receive or send messages, press the standby button on top of the modem, count to 5 and then turn it back on. This should reset it.

  4. Step 4

If your cable and internet are bundled, check your TV to see if it is working. If the TV isn't working, you need to call the cable company.

  5. Step 5

Check all cables and ensure they are properly connected. Try resetting the modem again. If the reset do not work, contact your cable company.
