Swurl aggregates your online life.

A number of new Web 2.0 tools, including Swurl, provide you with a way to "stream your life" by aggregating everything you write or post online into an easy-to-read and simple-to-use page that sums up your online life nicely. Swurl allows you to see your online life in a blog format or calendar format. Here's how to use this neat tool to keep track of your online activities.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign up for a free account with Swurl (see Resources below). Once you sign up, you will be prompted to add any sites you use regularly, including social networking sites like FaceBook and Twitter, and any blogs for which you write. Swurl will then "aggregate" that information to create a "lifestream" page with all your postings and updates. In addition to FaceBook and Twitter, Swurl works with such sources as WordPress, Typepad, Blogger, Yelp, Pandora, Flickr, Amazon, Blockbuster, Picasa, YouTube, Digg and Del.icio.us.

Go to "settings" to customize your Swurl page, add new sources, change colors and images on your Swurl page, and sign up for instant message alerts. You should also add a bio to your page so that other Swurl members can check out your feeds and sources.

      The Swurl timeline view.

Go to your Swurl homepage to see your lifestream in list form. Abbreviated versions of your blog posts, Twitters, Facebook and other updates will appear, with links so that interested readers can go directly to the original source. Go to your "Timeline" page, a cool way to see your activity by day.

    • 4

Go to the "Friends" link, and you will be directed to feeds from any of the friends you've accumulated on your original sites, including your Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Picasa and Yelp friends. This tool enables you to quickly see what friends are up to on the Web.

    • 5

Check back frequently to see how you're doing on Swurl. You will be surprised and impressed at how rapidly your lifestream builds and expands, depending on how often you post to a blog, update your Facebook page and so on. It's a fun and useful way to keep track of your own presence.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can always add to your Swurl list of sources as you begin to expand your presence on the web. Simply return to Swurl, see if they've partnered with new sites and add them to your list.
