Costume Jewelry

Investing in some costume jewelry is a great way to make some extra money. It is highly popular and easy to sell. If you buy the costume jewelry in bulk you can make several dollars off of each piece. Kids as young as 8 are wearing jewelry regularly now and they don't have money to buy the real thing. For kids and teens it's all about a unique style and not how much something costs. Costume jewelry gives them a way to express themselves without spending a lot of money.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy some costume jewelry in bulk. This will allow you to make the most profit. You will need start up money for this step unless you already own the costume jewelry you plan to sell.

    • 2

Take your collection to a flea market. This will give you immediate exposure and you can make cash that very day. This is a highly effective method for selling costume jewelry, especially if you set up your table like a professional. Give yourself a professional name and hang a banner with your name on it in front of your flea market tables. You will be able to reach all age groups and you should take advantage of this. Have a section for kids, teens, moms and grandmothers. Often times one group will buy for the other group.

    • 3

Have a yard sale. Costume jewelry sells very well at a yard sale. In most locations, however, you are only allowed to have 2 yard sales per year. It is a good start and will help you earn some money to take your business to the next level. To sell your jewelry at a yard sale make sure your jewelry is laid out on a table out front where people are sure to look first. Make sure all jewelry is clearly marked with a price. Most people won't buy from a yard sale if a price isn't listed.

Sell your items through your local newspaper. Place an ad with your contact information and what items you have for sale. Listing a price is up to you. Since each piece is going to be sold for a different amount you may have to leave that information out of the ad. Customers will call with questions.

    • 5

Utilize eBay. Ebay is still the top auction site online and it gets the most traffic. You have a great chance of selling your jewelry here. Just make sure you have a lot of great pictures and that you make your prices a little lower than your competitions and you will be sure to sell it no problem.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you begin to get popular you will want to rent or buy a credit card processing machine. This will give you the opportunity to sell to even more customers.

  • Put 50% of your profits back in to your business until you are making as much money as you desire.

  • Obey all laws. If you are required to get a permit, then get one. If you make a profit then you need to claim it on your taxes. You don't want to get any fines or pay any penalties because you didn't follow the rules.
