You may have to start out as an apprentice before you can make money as a full-time employee of the shop. Your job duties will include assisting in operating the tattoo equipment, cleaning up and design selection.

Sell your tattoo designs to area tattoo shops. If you don't want to work as a tattoo artist, you can instead try to sell your custom designs to shops. Work out a fee for them to pay you for use of your designs.

Design tattoos for the web. If you want to work outside of a shop, you can design tattoos and sell them online. Companies look for tattoo designers who can draw tattoo designs and then reproduce them on Photoshop software. Look for these types of positions on career websites.
