Make sure that your driver's license is up to date. You must have a class M license in order to operate a motorcycle, which often requires a class and an additional test at the department of motor vehicles. The rental company should be able to assist you in getting the necessary permits.

Find out the availability and mileage restrictions. When you rent a motorcycle, you can expect to have mileage and time restrictions just like you would with a car rental. They may allow you to stay in state boundaries, or you may be allowed to go cross country. Find out what the restrictions are with your rental package.

Look at prices. You should get prices based on mileage or by the day. This will also vary greatly depending on the type of motorcycle that you rent. Larger motorcycles are more expensive than smaller models.

4
Buy the optional insurance package that's offered when you rent a motorcycle. One accident could end up costing you tens of thousands of dollars, so it's really worth the extra expense up front. Also check with your credit card company to see if they offer any sort of protection.
