How to Buy a Natural Gas Detector
Natural gas is odorless and tasteless, which can make it difficult to detect without a device or monitor. Most gas companies add an additive to gas, so that it emits a distinct smell. However, some people can't detect the odor until it's too late. Buying a natural gas detector can protect your home. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Decide if you want a stand-alone or a device that utilizes your home security system. A stand-alone system is inexpensive and easy to install, while one that's wired into your security system can cost more. The main advantage to the hard-wired detector is that it notifies both you and the authorities in case of a problem, which can be beneficial if you aren't home when the leak occurs or if you're unconscious.

2
Note the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) that each monitor can detect. Choose a monitor that can detect the smallest amount of natural gas. This will give you enough time to fix the problem and move to fresh air before it grows life-threatening.

3
Choose a gas detector with lights and sound. Some models have one or the other, but to increase your safety, buy one that alerts you with both visual and auditory alarms.
