Instructions

    • 1

Allow your fruit and grains to ferment naturally. Place in a large pot and add water in order to help the distillate brew. These two, when you distill, will combine to make a mash.

    • 2

Drill a hole in the lid and add copper tubing to it. Attach the lid to the pot and heat the first items for the liquor, but understand that there are different boiling points for different ingredients in distillation.

    • 3

Direct the tubing so that it passes through a cooling area, such as a large tub of cold water. This way, the beginning of the tube catches the steam and sends it through the tube immersed in the cold water.

    • 4

Place another large pot at the end of the tubing after it comes out of the water bath. This is where you will catch your new drink.

    • 5

Separate the elements that boil apart into their own distill jar or other holder. Bear in mind that the beginning and end of the boiled mixture are often undesirable.

    • 6

Bring the vapors produced from the boiling through a narrow pipe, and then a coil. Pull them on through as a cold-water bath brings them back into liquid form. You are looking for a slow flow or steady trickle-not too much pressure in the pipe.

    • 7

Boil until almost dry. Now just enjoy the resulting liquor product. The ingredients you have put into your distillation process determine the flavors of your drink.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep it legal. Check out the legalities in each state. Probrewer has a listing you can search.

  • Don't boil your pot dry or the product is ruined.
