Help your kids make simple but adorable Valentine's Day cards for their friends, teachers and loved ones with their everyday art supplies like construction paper, scissors and glue. You'll have a fun afternoon together and they'll have a great time learning simple techniques that they can use to make cards for all occasions.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Envelope
  • Construction paper
  • Pencil
  • Paper trimmer or scissors
  • Adhesives
  • Stencils or cookie cutters
  • Glitter or microbeads
  • Pens or rubber stamps and ink
  • Stickers
  1. Step 1

Trim a strip of construction paper as wide as the envelope that will hold the card. If you're simply handing the Valentines out "as is," cut the paper to any size you like. Place the strip on top of the envelope and mark how tall the card should be with a pencil. Fold the construction paper along that line and trim off the excess to create the base of the card.

  2. Step 2

Cut a piece of contrasting construction paper to layer on the front of the card. Try festive combinations like red and pink, pink and lavender or a combination of the recipient's favorite colors. Affix it to the front with a glue stick.

  3. Step 3

Create accents for the front of the card by using stencils or cookie cutters to trace shapes like hearts, arrows, initials or flowers onto a third shade of construction paper or the same color you used to create the card base. Trim the shapes with sharp scissors. Arrange and affix them to the upper portion of the card with a glue stick or foam tape for added dimension.

  4. Step 4

Add glamor by using liquid glue to add a thin line around the entire card or to create a decorative pattern on the cardstock shapes. Sprinkle the surface with glitter or microbeads and tap off the excess.

  5. Step 5

Use colorful pens or rubber stamps and ink to add a "Happy Valentine's Day" message to the front of the card and a personal, funny or inspirational message on the inside.

  6. Step 6

Enclose the card in the envelope and seal it with a pretty sticker.
