Otherwise known as the "Short-Long," the "Kentucky Waterfall" or "Hockey Hair," the Mullet is one of the most instantly recognizable hairstyles. If you want to give your man a mane that's "party in the back, business in the front" then the Mullet is your ticket to a convenient two-in-one haircut.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look to famous Mullet Men such as Billy Ray Cyrus as well as various wrestlers and TV stars from the '80s and early '90s for inspiration. Keep their pictures close at hand when you give your man a mullet haircut.

  2. Step 2

Cut the sides short and feather them back. Use a bit of styling product on your fingers to sculpt the hair towards the back. You can also buzz the sides for an edgier mullet.

  3. Step 3

Keep the hair longest at the back. When it comes to a mullet, the back is where the party's at. Keep the back section long, whether the hair is curly or straight.

  4. Step 4

Make sure hair is short on top. Keep the hair styled short and spiky. The end result should be a haircut that looks like it's short from the front, but is actually long in the back.

  5. Step 5

Maintain the mullet with frequent haircuts to the top and sides. The back can continue to grow into a free-flowing waterfall of mullet glory.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't be surprised by jeers, insults or ironic approval. The mullet is an iconic hairstyle that carries heavy political and cultural implications and often evokes passionate reactions.
  • For a modern mullet, pair the haircut with more modern clothes and avoid the following: denim ensembles, fanny packs, muscle shirts and baseball caps.
