After you right-click (or ctrl + click) a file or folder, choose Compress. The text in quotes shows the name of the selected file or folder you are about to compress into a .zip file.

When you want to share a file(s) or a folder of files, you may want to create a .zip file.

Things You'll Need:

  • A file or a folder of files.
  • Mac OS X Leopard
  1. Step 1

    Identify the file or folder of files you want to compress into a .zip file.

  2. Step 2

    Right-click or ctrl-click the file or folder of files and choose Compress. The text in quotes shows the name of the file or folder of files you are about to compress.

  3. Step 3

    The .zip file will automatically be created in the same location as the original files. For example, if the file or folder of files you are compressing is on the Desktop, the .zip file will also appear on the Desktop.
