How to Change a Home Page in Firefox

The Firefox Web browser offers an easy way to change your homepage to your favorite website, the current page you are on, any page you have bookmarked, a blank page, or the windows and tabs you had open the last time you used Firefox. This means that your homepage can be different every time you open Firefox. It also means that you can quickly change your homepage whenever the mood strikes you to do so.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Firefox browser. Click the "Firefox" menu, choose "Options" and choose "Options" again from the menu that slides out.

    • 2

Select the “General” tab. In the Startup section you will see an option that controls the homepage when Firefox starts.

    • 3

Choose the option you wish from the drop-down menu. Your choices are “Show my home page," “Show a blank page," and “Show my windows and tabs from last time." If you select “Show my home page," you will also need to provide a URL in the box labeled “Home page.”

The buttons below the box will aid you in providing the URL. With them, you may select your current page, a bookmark or your default page, which is the Mozilla homepage, to be automatically entered into the URL field. Alternatively, you may type in a URL of a desired page.

Click “OK." If at any time you do not like the homepage you have selected, repeat steps to change your homepage.

Tips & Warnings

  • Selecting the “show my windows and tabs from last time” option keeps your home page different each time, and allows you to easily pick up where you left off from each previous session.

  • Selecting the blank page option will open up a Firefox window with no tabs opened.

  • If you would like to copy and paste a URL into the “Home page” field, you must copy the address before you begin the process of changing your home page. This is because once the options box is opened, Firefox will not allow you to function in another Firefox page until you finish. Once the address is copied (CTRL-C), go through the steps and then click on CTRL-V inside the home page URL field. This will paste the copied location into the field.

  • If you currently have a website you like set as your home page but want another site as your home page, be sure to bookmark the current website so you can easily return to it in the future after you change your home page.
