How to Dance the Cotton Eye Joe

A popular song at weddings, Cotton Eye Joe is often a forgotten line dance next to the more common Electric Slide, or even the Macarena. However, it's one of the most fun line dances if you know how to do it right. Follow these tips and get moving.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Stick out your right foot and tap the ground with the bottom of the heel twice.

  2. Step 2

    Put your right foot behind you and tap the ground with your toe twice.

  3. Step 3

    Put your right foot in front of you again, and tap the ground with the bottom of your heel once.

  4. Step 4

    Lift your right leg crossed over in front of your left leg.

  5. Step 5

    Lift your right leg crossed over behind your left leg.

  6. Step 6

    Take 3 steps to the right.

  7. Step 7

    Clap your hands.

  8. Step 8

    Turn yourself around back to the left.

  9. Step 9

    Repeat Steps 1 through 8, substituting your right foot with your left foot.

  10. Step 10

    Continue repeating steps, alternating between your right and left feet, until the song is over.
