How to Delete the History on AOL

America Online, or AOL, replicates the Microsoft Internet Explorer's general interface. Computer users already familiar with the latter's set-up will find the former fairly intuitive. After browsing the Web, it is best to erase any sensitive information that may have been provided during the process, for example, personal information or passwords. This is especially true if the computer being used is also available for public use.

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • AOL browser
  1. Step 1

    Look for the "settings" tab at the top of the America Online browser. Click on it.

  2. Step 2

    Choose "preferences." This option contains choices that affect the overall performance of the AOL system.

  3. Step 3

    Open "toolbar and sounds." A menu of other features will materialize.

  4. Step 4

    Select "clear history trail now." All cookies and temporary files that have accumulated during Web activity will disappear.

  5. Step 5

    Exit the browser by clicking on the "X" located at the top right corner of the screen to close the window. Continue with other offline tasks or shut down the computer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always erase browsing history after navigating from bank and other secured sites.
  • Take advantage of free registry cleaners and internet security suites to fully remove remaining Internet history.
  • Do not download links from unknown emails, sites and suspicious pop-up windows.
