Flickr is a very useful photo and video hosting website. Once you sign up for a free membership, you may upload your digital photos and share them with your friends and the Flickr community. It is a great place to store virtual photo albums of topics or life events, with many useful photo organizing tools and features available. One of the very useful tools on Flickr is the ability to make a note on a photograph.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flickr account
  • Internet access
  1. Step 1

Log in to your Flickr account. In your photostream, find the photograph you'd like to place a note on and click on the photo.

  2. Step 2

You will be brought to a page with your photo in the middle. On top of your photo you will see a series of choices with small icons next to them: "Add note," "Send to Group," "Add to Set," and so on. Click on the icon that says "Add note," it should be the very first choice on the left.

  3. Step 3

When you click "Add note," 2 boxes will appear right on top of the photo: One small photo frame made out of a dashed white line, and underneath it a light pink text box that says "Add your note here." Under these 2 boxes there are 2 buttons marked "save" and "cancel."

  4. Step 4

Position your cursor inside the dashed line square and drag the box to the spot on the photo where you'd like to make a note. For example, if it is a picture of someone blowing out birthday candles and you would like to note how many candles are on the cake, drag the box so that it sits right on top of the candles. You may also resize the box by clicking on the corners of the box and dragging in to make it smaller or out to make it bigger.

  5. Step 5

After the box is positioned over the correct spot on the photo, click your mouse inside the text box. Type in the note you'd like to make about the photo. From our example in Step 4 you might say: "36 candles!" or "Hope your wish came true!"

  6. Step 6

When you are satisfied with the position of the note and the text, click "save."

  7. Step 7

You may also make a note on someone else's Flickr photo. Simply navigate to the desired photo in your contact's photostream and follow the same steps.

Tips & Warnings
  • The notes feature in Flickr can be useful for many reasons. While you can always add captions to photos to describe them, a note lets you be more specific about an object featured in the photo--it's the virtual equivalent of drawing an arrow and a caption to something in a photo.
  • If your photos are marked "public" anyone can make a note on your Flickr photos. If you are posting personal pictures that you might not want to share with the world wide web, consider marking your photos as "private" or "for friends and family."
  • You can always go back and delete or change a note after it's been created.
