How to Refill a Cartridge for a Canon Pixma IP1800 Printer

Canon is one of the most popular brands of printers on the market today. The Canon Pixma IP1800 printer delivers good quality copies in either color or black and white. One of the only pitfalls of a Canon printer is the cost of the new ink cartridges. Nevertheless, you can spend a lot less money on buying ink for your printer by refilling the cartridges yourself. Once you know how to refill your printer cartridges, you can start saving your money. The following steps detail the process needed to refill a cartridge for a Canon Pixma IP1800 printer.

Instructions

1. Purchase the correct Canon ink refill kit. It is extremely important to only buy the precise ink refill kit for the Canon Pixma IP1800 printer. This will ensure that you have all of the specific inks needed and also the refill tools required.

2. Prepare your work area. Refilling ink cartridges is a very messy activity; for that reason, you should place newspapers down, wear rubber gloves and if you want; wear an old shirt. Remove all of the refill kit's contents. Lay them on the newspaper, along with some paper towels (for any messes). Keep everything needed close at hand.

3. Prepare your Canon Pixma IP1800 cartridges. Take the cartridge(s) you wish to fill out of your printer. Eliminate the label on top. Use the special drill tool (provided in the refill kit) to open the vent holes on the cartridges. Place tape on the holes of the colors you are not refilling at this time (on the color cartridge). Set the cartridge on the newspaper.

4. Refill your Canon Pixma IP1800 cartridges. Using the syringes provided in the refill kit (use a new one for each color), fill the colored cartridges with no more than 6 cc (6 ml) of ink and the black cartridges with no more than 20 cc (20 ml) of black ink. Place the needle in the vent hole until it is slightly above the bottom of the cartridge. Now, very slowly add ink and watch the vent hole, so it does not overflow. Remove the needle carefully, once it is filled and wipe off any excess ink. Place tape over the hole and repeat this process until all colors of ink have been refilled. After all Canon Pixma IP1800 cartridges are filled, use a needle to create a tiny opening in all of the newly taped vent holes.

5. Reinstall your Canon Pixma IP1800 cartridges. Once all cartridges have been filled, place them back into your printer and run at least one (or more) cleaning cycles and verify that all colors are printing correctly.
