How to Pose Female Models
-
1
Know your model. Talk to her before the shoot. Before posing her, understand what type of look she wants.
-
2
Keep all limbs soft and flowing. Allow the fingers to be seen. Avoid closed hands, balled fists and full hands concealed in pockets. Gentle curves in the fingers are soft and feminine. Allow the hand and fingers to curve around the face, arms and hips. Wherever your place the hands, be sure the fingers are elongated and the palms are not showing toward the camera.

3
Position the torso of the model. Leaning back, lounging and reclining are all non-aggressive feminine postures. Avoid poses where the female model is leaning forward, or moving in the direction of the camera directly. This is a very masculine posture.
-
4
Pose the model’s eyes to create emotion. Reveal the mood of the photograph through the model’s eye language. Shoot from above and have the model gaze up at you. This creates a needy, waiting type look. With a closed-mouth smile, this pose can look very seductive. Have the model look off camera with her eyes to create a pensive mood. Create happiness and joy with wide, bright eyes smiling directly at the camera.
-
5
Use the model’s mouth to evoke more feeling. Smiling large will evoke laughter, happiness or even surprise. Pose the model with a closed-mouth smile for a coy or shy but happy appearance. Use the fingers by the lips for a seductive appearance.
-
6
Tilting the model’s head can also change the appearance of your photograph. Tilting toward the camera looks more authoritative. Tilting away from the camera, your model will look more alluring and seductive.
-
7
Using props as a posing tool can also change the look of your female model poses. Incorporate feminine props such as single stem flowers, bubbles, beads and rose petals. Have the model handle the props with effortless hand gestures to keep a soft, feminine look.
