Step 1
Obtain an application for an Australian passport. This can be done in one of two ways. Applicants may pick up a passport application at the nearest Australian postal office or download the form online. If downloading the form and printing it online you will need to first answer a few questions about the age of the applicant, whether or not the applicant is currently in Australia, and whether or not the applicant is applying for a new or renewal passport. The application form can be downloaded via the link provided below. The online version of the application can only be printed after the applicable information is entered into the system via the passport department web page.

Step 2
Complete the application. The application has several sections. These sections include personal information, proof of identity, as well as listing past passports. You will also need a guarantor, this person is an Australian citizen who will vouch for your identity.

Return the completed form to the nearest Australian postal office. When returning the form you must bring two forms of photo identification. These photos must be no more than six-months-old.

Pay the required fee. Depending on the frequentness of travel and the type of passport being issued fees will vary. Fees are due at the time the passport application is returned to the postal office.
