Things You'll Need:
- Art books
-
Step 1
Be comfortable with your body. In order to be a successful nude model, you must be comfortable being nude in front of others. A class environment could leave you nude in front of fifteen or more people of the same or opposite sex. You can’t be concerned with sucking in your stomach or hiding a double chin.
-
Step 2
Know your body. You should practice modeling nude in front of the mirror. What poses look good? Which poses create interesting angles? Pay attention to your hands and feet as well as your torso--your whole body is the pose, not just your torso.
-
Step 3
Listen to direction. While you should be familiar with poses that look good, you could be working with an artist who has a particular pose in mind and wants to position you. Pay attention to the artist and ask questions if you don’t understand their request.
-
Step 4
Learn how to stay still. Artists that you work with will need you to remain in one pose for anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour. You shouldn’t itch or stretch while modeling.
-
Step 5
Study art. Some artists may want to evoke the feeling of an existing piece. Your familiarity with art will help you communicate with the artist. It will also help you know which poses work for which medium.
-
Step 6
Market yourself. Nude models do not come in just one size or shape, know your assets and how to market them. Ask for referrals and letters of recommendation from artists you work with.
-
Step 7
Mind your nude model manners! Wear a robe when taking breaks, don’t scratch yourself in private areas, and respect that while an artist might be comfortable painting you nude, they may not wish to converse with you while you are nude (except for providing directions). Act like a professional at all times.
