Obtain legal summons prior to tracking down the suspect’s IP. This document will provide the investigator with credible authorization to get an attacker’s name, address and other personal information.

Use the Firefox browser to avoid leaving traces of browsing activity. Exercise good judgment at all times when navigating through unfamiliar sites.

Install the SwitchProxy extension in the meantime to keep all browsing untraceable.

Encrypt any sent emails to prevent exposing one’s IP address. To the untrained eye, these scrambled messages are unreadable.

Write down the attacker’s IP address on a piece of paper. Keeping this information on hard copy can be used for further legal recourse.
