The application of permanent makeup usually involves a modified version of tattooing. When you want to remove permanent makeup, it requires a lot more than wiping it off with cold cream. If you have a botched permanent makeup job and don’t want to wait for it to wear off (most permanent makeup does after a few years), you can get it removed through another cosmetic process. It is the same one used to remove tattoos--laser surgery.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wait a couple of weeks after you get your permanent makeup applied to remove it. The reason why is that permanent makeup often causes the tissue in the affected area to swell. This swelling (of course) looks unattractive, but after it goes away the area looks nice. However, if this doesn’t turn out to be the case, you still need to allow the tissue to heal prior to getting any laser surgery. It will reduce your risk of permanent scarring.

  2. Step 2

Find a reputable medical professional to perform the laser surgery. You should look for a licensed medical professional with a good reputation to remove your permanent makeup. Usually, you can find one through word of mouth or off of the references of your family doctor. You can also search the yellow pages and Internet. Just be sure to ask for references.

  3. Step 3

Set up a meeting with the doctor to discuss the details of the laser surgery. You want to know in advance how much you will be paying to get your permanent makeup removed. Also, you want to get a general feel for the doctor. If you don’t feel comfortable with him, then you should continue your search. You'll want to get your laser surgery done by a doctor who informs you of all of the risks and makes you feel at ease.

  4. Step 4

Make an appointment to get your laser surgery done. Even if the doctor says it will be painless, it’s best to make an appointment at a time and day during the week in which you can rest afterward. This period will give you time to watch for any reactions, good or bad.

  5. Step 5

Go to your appointment and get that permanent makeup removed. If it happens to be around the eye area, bring a friend or family member along so they can drive you home. It just depends on how sensitive your eyes are to the laser and what kind of medication, if any; you are given prior to the procedure.

Tips & Warnings
  • Until you get your laser surgery done, you can cover up the permanent makeup job with heavy makeup.
  • If your skin begins to ooze, it's time to go to the doctor. You probably have an infection.
