How to Deal With Annoying Cubicle Mates

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Do you have a cubical mate that talks to their computer? Ask your cubical mate what they are having a problem with and offer to help them. This will cut down on their chatter with their computer.

  2. Step 2

    Do you have a cubical mate that complains every day? Talk to your cubical mate about positive things. Change the subject and talk about uplifting things. Do this on an on-going basis and the complaints should die down.

  3. Step 3

    Do you have a cubical mate that sets his sound on every time he receives an email message? Talk to your cubical mate about the amount of email he is receiving. Offer to help him out in exchange for turning the sound off.

  • Always keep your communication with your cubicle mate positive.

on 8/17/2008 Sorry to hear about your crazy co-worker. Take him out for a cup of coffee and have a talk with him.
He needs to understand that his crazy cell phone yelling is disruptive. If he is still uncooperative, let him know you have to take action about the situation by talking to your boss.

on 8/16/2008 You know I don't have a cubicle, just a big office in which my worker complains and yells crazily at his cell phone. I try to change the subject by getting him to bitch at the wall for tripping him, but no matter what I do he still nearly kills his phone. :(

on 8/15/2008 Great comment! If it were me, I would talk to the cell phone owner very casually and mention that their cell phone was ringing while they were out. You could also mention to them that you know it was their cell phone because it played the Star Spangled Banner (as an example). It helps to joke around about it.

Inquire in a friendly way what all the calls are about. This will require patience on your part. My point is if you start with friendly conversations then
you can mention to the cell phone owner it would be a good idea to take the cell phone with them when they step out of the office so they don't miss their calls. This enables you to take care of the situation in a friendly manner.

In some cases you may encounter an uncooperative cubicle mate. The next step would be to talk to you boss about the situation with out mentioning names and have him institute a policy about
