Condition Your Hair Naturally with Food
Condition Your Hair Naturally with Food

You don't have to buy expensive products to condition your hair. You have what you need in your refrigerator! Using certain whole, raw foods to nourish the hair and skin is an ancient tradition. These treatments are natural and often provide more lasting results than any chemical treatments you can buy.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Coconut Oil
This works well for hair that is dry and brittle near the end of the hair shaft. After washing your hair, take a small amount of coconut oil and spread it in the palm of your hands. Work the oil into the ends of your wet hair. You do not need to wash this out of your hair.

  2. Step 2

    Avocado
Puree an avocado with enough water or oil to make a workable solution. Apply it to the hair. Let it penetrate the hair for approximately 20 minutes. Wash and dry your hair as normal.

  3. Step 3

    Mayonnaise
Mayonnaise is well-known as a natural hair conditioner. Apply the mayonnaise and allow it to stay on your hair for 20 minutes. Wash and dry your hair as usual. This may make your hair oily at the scalp. If this is a concern for your hair type, apply it only to the ends of the hair.

  4. Step 4

    Egg
Beat the raw egg in a small bowl. If you have long hair, you will need two eggs. Place the raw egg on your hair and allow it to sit for approximately 30 minutes. Rinse the egg from your hair. Make sure the water is as cool as you can get it without being uncomfortable. Warm water will cook the egg. Shampoo again with your normal hair shampoo and dry as usual. You will be amazed at the extra body the egg gives your hair.

  5. Step 5

    Olive Oil
Place a small amount of olive oil in the palm of your hand. Work the olive oil into your hair. Allow it to stay on your hair for 20 minutes. Wash and dry your hair as usual. This may make your hair oily at the scalp. If this is a concern for your hair type, apply it only to the ends of the hair.

Tips & Warnings
  • While waiting for the conditioners to do their work, you can cover your hair with a towel or a shower cap to prevent dripping.
  • Weekly conditioning will help keep your hair healthy.
  • If you are used to commercial conditioners, this will feel very different. When your hair is wet, it will not feel coated. This gives your hair deep conditioning that will last.
