How to Make Candy Raver Clothes

Candy ravers are some of the most distinct rave-goers in the scene. They can be identified by their bright colored clothing and beaded jewelry. Making candy raver clothes can be easy and fun. By following these steps, you'll be well on your way to joining the candy raver culture.

• Bright clothes
• Extra fabric (bright patterns or colors)
• Beaded jewelry-making kit
• Scissors
• Needle and thread
• Jeans
• Any other bright colored accessories

1. Stop by a few local thrift stores and keep an open mind. Look for interesting shirts that are brightly colored, cartoon character themed, child-like themed or ironic (such as "Honor Roll Student" or "Security Guard").

2. Look for pants that fit well enough to stay on your hips or can be made to stay there with a belt, but are still extremely baggy and big. Bright colors or oddly textured materials are a plus.

3. Purchase brightly colored or patterned fabric, or extra shirts that can be used as fabric.

4. Check out the jewelry and accessory section at the thrift stores. Find brightly colored (preferrably plastic) bracelets, necklaces, headbands or earrings. If there aren't an abundance of these, try a local children's jewelry store.

5. Purchase a beaded jewelry making kit with brightly colored beads. The kits can be found at craft stores.

6. Use your scissors however you'd like in order to make the thrift store shirts more interesting. This can include cutting out the neck, cutting off the sleeves or cutting off the bottom of the shirt. Shirts that may not fit properly can be disguised with a little help from the scissors or by tying the fabric. The shirts can be securely fastened with a string of brightly colored beads from the bead kit.

7. Make your jeans more "candy raver" by adding patches of color from the extra fabric and shirts that you bought. If the jean legs aren't wide enough, you can extend them by cutting up the outside seam of the leg and sewing some of the previously purchased fabric inside the pant leg.

8. Go wild with your accessories since accessories are important in the candy raver genre. You should make at least a dozen colorful beaded bracelets to be worn on your wrists. Several necklaces made with large bright beads should also be made. For girls, beaded hair ties can also come in handy.

• Vests are also a great candy raver accessory. While bright colors are always the way to go with other articles of clothing, a neutral colored vest may be easier to match with other brightly colored shirts.
