You don't have to be an artist to draw a decent looking ladybug. In fact, the ladybug is one of the easiest things for a beginning artist to draw. It includes simple shapes and lines easy to recreate. If you are a fan of ladybugs, or if you have a child who loves ladybugs, this is a great project to learn together. Here are step by step instructions on how to draw your very own ladybug.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Paper
  1. Step 1

Draw one large circle for the body of the ladybug. The size of the circle really depends on how large you want to make the ladybug. You could draw the circle an inch in size, or have it fit almost your entire paper. Just make sure to leave some room for the head.

  2. Step 2

Add a smaller circle about a 1/4 the size of the body to the right side of the circle. This will be the head. It is best to leave a small sliver of the head circle overlapping the body. Then, erase the overlapping line of the head.

  3. Step 3

Near the front of the head, draw two small ovals inside the head to represent eyes. These can be about a quarter the size of the head and should sit on the left and right sides of the head.

  4. Step 4

Draw a line down the body to represent the wings of the ladybug. Begin where the head meets the body and draw a straight line down the middle. Next, add the famous ladybug spots. Put two large spots on one side of the body. They should be slightly smaller than the head. On the other side, place two large dots and one small dot in random spots.

  5. Step 5

Add three legs to each side of the ladybug. This is the finishing touch. Insects, including ladybugs, have six legs. Begin by placing one leg coming off the middle of each side of the body. It should slightly curve down and be about the length of one of the larger ladybug spots. Add the same type of leg above and below this leg on either side.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add color if you want. The spots, eyes, legs, and antennae are black while the rest of the body is red.
  • Don't draw your ladybug's dots all in a row, or too uniform. The dots shouldn't be perfect since nature isn't perfect.
