Many avid PlayStation 2 (or PS2) fans wish to create duplicates of their games for safety purposes. Rather than purchasing a new copy of the game when broken or lost, a PS2 enthusiast can copy (or burn) their games with relative ease. The process takes about 20 minutes and is the ideal solution for any PS2 fan who wishes to keep a duplicate of their game for practical reasons.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PS2 game
  • Computer with DVD burner
  • Blank DVD media
  • DVD burning software (DVD Decryptor)
  1. Step 1

Place a PS2 game into your computer's DVD burner. The DVD burner doubles as your CD-ROM/DVD-Rom drive. Be careful not to scratch or damage your PS2 game when you place it in the drive.

  2. Step 2

Start the DVD burning software. While you can accomplish this task with multiple brands of DVD burning software, DVD Decryptor will be used for this example.

  3. Step 3

Move your cursor to the “Tool bar.”

  4. Step 4

Open the “Mode” menu, followed by the “ISO” menu and then choose the “read” option. The most recent version of DVD Decryptor should automatically detect the source of your DVD burner.

  5. Step 5

Move your cursor to “decrypt” and left-click. The game will then copy to your hard drive to a destination of your choosing.

  6. Step 6

Remove the PS2 game and replace it with a blank DVD media.

  7. Step 7

Move your cursor, again, to the “tool bar.”

  8. Step 8

Open the “mode” menu, followed by the “ISO” menu and then choose the “write” option.

  9. Step 9

Select the PS2 file that was duplicated to your hard drive and left-click the “write” option.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use high-end blank DVD media to duplicate your PS2 games. Cheaper, lesser known brands of DVD media will scratch easily, and sometimes flake if not protected.
  • Duplicating PS2 games that you have not purchased is illegal and should be avoided.

on 1/3/2009 This guide fails to mention that most PS2 systems require a mod chip to play the backup. That then violates the Digital Millennium Copyright Act in the United States. So, congratulations... you have a backup, but until the laws change, you have have lost the legal rights to access that backup.
