Catfish is considered an American midwestern delicacy. Use this guide to catch a great tasting fish!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Catfish are most common in midwestern rivers. If you can, find a slow flowing or a pocket of a river that is nearly still. Catfish will often swim into these areas for a rest, making them available to anglers.

  2. Step 2

Probably the best bait for catfish is a simple worm and hook. Make sure that you have a bobber and several weights to the line. Keep your worm near the bottom so you're fishing only for catfish.

  3. Step 3

When you do bring up a catfish, make sure not to touch the barbs on the sides of the head as that can be quite painful. If you think that the fish is a keeper, find a rock and smash the fish once on the head. This will typically cause some nervous system damage and kill the fish quickly and with as little pain as possible.
