Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Save the shreddings created when you run documents and other paperwork through a shredder. Use the pieces as is or coat them with spray paint to coordinate with your crafts project. If you don't own a shredder, you can still recreate the looks by buying pre-shredded gift bag filler (see Resources).

  2. Step 2

Create dimensional borders for birthday-related greeting cards and scrapbook layouts. Affix pieces of double-stick tape along the edges of the card or background page (liquid glue may cause the cardstock to buckle) in straight lines, curves or zigzags. Tear and crumple the shreddings into smaller pieces and press them onto the adhesive.

  3. Step 3

Let the kids design fun pictures as grandparent or teacher gifts. Draw a simple image such as a snowman, heart, initial or flower onto a piece of cardboard. Coat the inside of the shape with liquid glue so the kids can press and stick the shreddings onto the surface. Use a piece of string or ribbon to outline the shape for added definition.

  4. Step 4

Design Christmas ornaments that match your tree's color scheme by filling plastic balls with shreddings sprayed with festive silver, gold or the color of your choice. Cap the ornaments and then hang them with a length of coordinating ribbon.

  5. Step 5

Use shreddings to assemble holiday centerpieces. For example, fill small baskets with shreddings you've painted in pastel colors. Add a few decorated eggs or small bunnies and chicks you've created with pom poms and you've got a decoration to adorn your dinner table for Easter.
