How to Wear Loose Eye Shadow

Learning to apply and wear loose eye shadow is a bit of an art form. Unlike pressed eye shadows, loose shadows work best when you're looking for just a bit of highlighting or a subtle shimmer on the eyelid.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Apply a good base coat to the eyelid before applying the eye shadow. Dab a little bit of foundation on the eyelid and blend thoroughly. Next dust the lid with powder to set the base and create a good, even surface for the eye color. Wipe way any excess powder before proceeding.

  2. Step 2

Load a good quality eye shadow brush by dipping it into the loose eye shadow color of your choice. Most of the time this should be a soft beige, white or other subtle color that you can build upon later. Make sure that there's enough on the brush, and gently tap it into the container to remove any excess.

  3. Step 3

Sweep the color evenly over the eyelid. Take the brush and start from the inside of the eye, working your way out until there's an even coat of color on your eye.

  4. Step 4

Make it pop with a little more color, if you choose. Apply a second, deeper shade to accent the crease of your eyelid.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes since loose powder tends to wear off easily.
