How to Delete Safari Cookies

Researching, browsing, shopping or networking online are popular activities that can make life more convenient. However, as you use the Internet your browser can become a giant "cookie" jar for all those little snippets of code used by sites to gather information about you and your system. Although "cookies" can make your browsing experience more fun on many websites, there are also security concerns since "cookies" are designed to scan your computer for information. Even with the security software packages available for your computer system, sometimes it is necessary to manually delete cookies from your browser software. Here's how to do it in Safari on your Mac.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Safari and open the Preferences dialog box by clicking "Safari" and "Preferences." When the dialog box appears, click the "Security" icon.

    • 2

Click the "Show Cookies" button at the bottom of the second grouping of preferences labeled "Accept Cookies." A second dialog box will appear showing a list of all the "cookies" stored currently stored in your copy of Safari. It's probably a lot more than you expected. From this box, you can select the "cookies" you would like to delete.

    • 3

Highlight the "cookies" you want to delete. Once selected, click the "Remove" button in the lower left to remove your selections. You can select multiple "cookies" in a sequence by holding "Shift" while clicking your beginning and ending choice. Or, you can also click the "Remove All" button at the bottom of the box to eliminate all the "cookies" in your list.

    • 4

Click "Done" at the bottom of the box when you have removed your preferred "cookies." Now, click the red circle in the upper left corner of the Preferences box to close it and continue browsing.
