1
String white lights around the branches to eliminate the tree. Orange is a fall color but placing orange lights on a tree will give it more of a “Halloween” look instead of Thanksgiving. White, on the other hand, is a neutral color. However, if you truly want to stick to the Thanksgiving theme while decorating the tree, you could also place candles in the tree and light them. You could buy small, brown candles or even scented candles like “Pumpkin Spice.” It's always important to remember safety when lighting candles that are on a tree.

Search through Christmas ornaments you already own and place any that would be appropriate for a Thanksgiving tree on tree. A Santa ornament, for example, would not be right for a Thanksgiving tree. However, if you own an ornament that represents your favorite college or NFL football team, this would be perfect for a Thanksgiving tree. Doing this before you go out and buy anything else for a Thanksgiving tree could save you some money, not to mention make your job a whole lot easier once it comes time to put up the Christmas tree. To keep the Thanksgiving theme, use brown yarn or thread to hang these items on your Thanksgiving tree.

Place family pictures from previous Thanksgivings in small frames and hang them on the tree. This is an excellent way to preserve these memories as well as display them to anybody who stops by your home during the Thanksgiving season. Once again, use brown yarn or thread to hang these items on the Thanksgiving tree.

Put food labels from your favorite Thanksgiving meal foods onto the tree. This is somewhat of a fun and humorous way to decorate a Thanksgiving tree. For example, you could cut out the fronts of boxes of stuffing or rip the label off of a can of yams. Then, cut a small hole in the top of these, place the brown yarn through the hole and hang the items on your Thanksgiving tree.

Search online for Thanksgiving ornaments to hang onto your tree. You might be surprised with how many of these ornaments actually exist. The link below, for example, will take you to a website with roughly 50 different Thanksgiving ornaments. If these aren't what you're searching for, simply type “Thanksgiving tree ornaments” in your favorite search engine.

Top the Thanksgiving tree with a stuffed turkey doll or toy. These can be found at practically every department store in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving. The size of the turkey you buy will be dependent on the size of the tree. You may need to sit the turkey upright in order to get him to stay up there. You can also sew a piece of cloth to the turkey and simply hang that around the top of the tree as well.

Place a Thanksgiving rug underneath the tree. Thanksgiving tree skirts can be difficult to find. A small rug with either a fall or Thanksgiving theme, however, is not. These, much like the stuffed turkeys, can be found at almost any department store from November 1 until Thanksgiving Day.
