How to Cut Hair Off Yorkshire Terriers

Yorkshire Terriers are a fun small breed dog with long black and brown hair. While the dog itself is small, grooming can be a big job. For full grooming a professional is recommended. If you are ready to attempt grooming a Yorkshire Terrier on your own follow these steps to help with the process.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Grooming Table with Grooming Straps
    • Professional Dog Clippers
    • Professional Grooming Scissors
    • Clipper Blades: #10, #4, #4F (other lengths are optional)
    • Clipper Coolant and Cleaner
    • Combs
    • Brush
    • Matt Breaker
    • Dog Nail Clippers
    • Styptic Powder
    • Dog Ear Cleaner
    • Cotton Balls and Swabs
    1. Grooming a Yorkshire Terrier

      • 1

Place the Yorkshire Terrier on a table or other sturdy surface in order to bring him or her to a comfortble working height. This wil give you more control over the dog.

      • 2

Use a #10 blade on the dog clippers to clip under the hind legs of the dog and under the tail.

      • 3

Comb through the entire dog coat and remove any matts prior to bathing the Yorkie.

      • 4

Bathe and condition the Yorkshire Terrier using a professional dog shampoo and conditioning treatment. If a medicated shampoo is being used leave it on for the full recommended time.

      • 5

Completely dry the dog before proceeding with the grooming process. Trying to clip a wet dog will clog clippers and scissors and result in an uneven finished groom appearance.

      • 6

Comb through the entire dog coat after drying.

      • 7

Tie a top knot now if one is desired. A top knot is the tuft of hair tied up on the top of the Yorkshire Terrier's head, often tied with a ribbon or held with a barrette. Gather the hair from the base of the back of the head to the front of the ears and tie with a rubber band or hair clip.
