Use Vitamin E for Acne Scars

Acne scars can be frustrating, if not disheartening. But research indicates that vitamin E can reduce the appearance of acne scars. The properties of vitamin E improve the look of skin by promoting antioxidant activity. Vitamin E is available in natural and synthetic form, but experts recommend the natural form for better skin absorption. Vitamin E can be purchased at most drug stores as a gel capsule as an oil or lotion.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Vitamin E capsules
    • Needle
    • Lotion with vitamin E oil
      • 1

Take Vitamin E gel capsules once a day.

      • 2

Puncture a Vitamin E capsule with a needle, and squeeze the oil into your palm.

      • 3

Dab the oil on the affected areas of your face, typically scars on the cheek and forehead, and blend in downward strokes. Avoid eye contact with the oil by starting the application about ½ inch below the eye.

      • 4

Use lotions or creams that include Vitamin E oil to improve the look of acne scars. Avoid lotions with mineral oil, which has been know to clog pores, causing more breakouts.

    Tips & Warnings

    • At night, use Vitamin E for acne scars in the gel form. For daytime wear, use a lotion that includes Vitamin E.

    • Use old pillowcases if you plan to wear the gel at night.

    • Vitamin E improves the texture of acne scars by leaving the skin feel smooth.

    • Iron hinders the absorption of Vitamin E, according to the Acne Resource Center, which recommends that the two be taken separately, eight to 12 hours apart, to be effective.

    • Do not use Vitamin E oil on pimples, only scars.

    • Some forms of Vitamin E feel greasy, especially gel from a capsule, and may have an odor.

    • Do not expect Vitamin E oil to erase all evidence of scarring.
