Flat irons are great for straightening but are even better for curling hair. Learn great techniques to get full and luxurious curls.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Straightening product
  • Ceramic flat iron
  • Hair clips
  1. Step 1

Apply a straightening product if your hair is frizzy. Separate your hair and apply your straightening product as directed.

  2. Step 2

Heat the ceramic flat iron to the desired temperature. Use a higher heat temperature for better results; however, the temperature should not be so high that it damages the hair. You should be able to comfortably flat iron your hair without having to rush because the heat is too high.

  3. Step 3

Straighten hair. In order to minimize puffiness, your hair should be straight or at least semi-straight prior to flat ironing. Begin at the nape of your head. Making a part from left to right, section off a small portion of hair. Secure the rest of the hair with a hair clip. Comb through any tangles. Grab a smaller section within the portion of hair that you are working on.

  4. Step 4

Moving the flat iron quickly, making sure not to let it stay on one piece of hair too long, begin at the root of the head--or as close to the root as you can get, and slide the flat iron down the hair. The hair should be straightened.

  5. Step 5

Continue this process until the entire head is straightened. Comb out any additional tangles.

  6. Step 6

Curl your hair. Begin at the nape of the head. Section off a small portion of hair. Secure the rest of the hair with hair clips. Take a smaller portion within the section and comb through. In one swift motion, hold the flat iron sideways, starting as close to the root as you can get, turn your wrist under while sliding the flat iron down the hair. Depending on how much you rotate your wrist is how tight your curl will be.

  7. Step 7

Continue this process until the entire head is finished.

  8. Step 8

Spiral curl the hair by following the same parting process in Step 5; however, hold the flat iron upright, twirling the flat iron while sliding it down your hair. This should produce a luxurious and full spiral curl. Continue this over the entire head.
