The basics of construction management toward a successful project.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • detail orientation
  • construction plan
  • project specifications
  1. Step 1

Specifications: Once you have all the specifications for your project, and you know the design to the last detail (blueprint/plan is strongly recommended) we can move to the next step.

  2. Step 2

Budgeting (research): You will need to research the cost of each part of your project (plumbing, electrical, roofing etc.). Add all the numbers and add at least 15% for errors and miscalculations. Do not forget appliances and fixtures. Write everything.

  3. Step 3

Scheduling: Each trade need sufficient time to complete it's job. Same with budgeting you'll need to budget your time for each trade. Total the time. Write everything.

  4. Step 4

Interviewing subcontractors: Read my article how to choose a contractor.

  5. Step 5

Contracting: Have the contracts reviewed by a professional and make sure there is a firm completion date on each trade to meet your scheduling.
