The flying disc, also known by the name of the trademarked product "Frisbee," has been around in some form for centuries. But whether you're in the backyard throwing the disc to your dog or embroiled in a competitive Ultimate struggle, there is a subtle art to throwing a flying disc.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Always hold the disc parallel to the ground.
Step2
Curl your pinkie, ring and middle fingers under the inside edge of the flying disc.
Step3
Place your index finger on the outside edge and your thumb on top of the disc.
Step4
Stand with your shoulders pointing 90 degrees away from your target.
Step5
Pull the disc across your body toward your nonthrowing shoulder.
Step6
Take one step toward your target.
Step7
Bring your throwing arm across your body.
Step8
Snap your elbow and wrist just before you release the disc.
Step9
Release the disc when your hand is in between your shoulders.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you snap your wrist, you put rotation on the disc. Good rotation increases your chances of a good toss.
  • If the disc rolls onto its side soon after you release it, try using less of a shoulder motion and more wrist and elbow.

on 11/22/2005 When you have the frisbee in your hand, use your thumb push down to find the pressure point of the disc, a spot, closest to the edge of the disc that still sinks down a little bit, this will keep your grip tight, and is a easy way for beginners to take more control over the frisbee

on 11/22/2005 Don't try throwing long when you first start. Just try short distances and throw for accuracy too.
