Advent is celebrated for the four Sundays preceding Christmas. Traditionally, an Advent wreath is set up, and a candle is lit for each Advent Sunday.

Buy or gather several branches of evergreens.

Choose a flat surface where the branches will remain undisturbed.

Lay branches flat and make a circle.

Add pinecones and other symbols of Christmas if you wish. The wreath can be as simple or ornate as you want.

Place four candles in the circle. Tradition says that three candles are purple and one is pink.

Light one candle on the first Advent Sunday, two candles on the second Advent Sunday, and so on.

Place a red or white candle in the center of the wreath on Christmas day, and light all five candles.
Tips & Warnings
Place the candles in small candleholders to anchor them securely.
Evergreen branches are flammable, especially when they begin to dry out toward the last Advent Sunday. Take care with candles and flame.
