How to Make an Advent Wreath

Advent is celebrated for the four Sundays preceding Christmas. Traditionally, an Advent wreath is set up, and a candle is lit for each Advent Sunday.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pine Cones
  • Matches
  • Matches
  • 5 candles
  1. Step 1

    Buy or gather several branches of evergreens.

  2. Step 2

    Choose a flat surface where the branches will remain undisturbed.

  3. Step 3

    Lay branches flat and make a circle.

  4. Step 4

    Add pinecones and other symbols of Christmas if you wish. The wreath can be as simple or ornate as you want.

  5. Step 5

    Place four candles in the circle. Tradition says that three candles are purple and one is pink.

  6. Step 6

    Light one candle on the first Advent Sunday, two candles on the second Advent Sunday, and so on.

  7. Step 7

    Place a red or white candle in the center of the wreath on Christmas day, and light all five candles.

Tips & Warnings
  • Place the candles in small candleholders to anchor them securely.
  • Evergreen branches are flammable, especially when they begin to dry out toward the last Advent Sunday. Take care with candles and flame.
