A cross between instant messaging, blogging and social networking, Twitter is a versatile application. People use Twitter for a variety of purposes, from socializing to promoting websites. One of the key components of Twitter is the reply. You send a reply on Twitter as a response to someone else's message. This reply goes to the person as well as to those who follow the person.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Log into Twitter via the Twitter homepage.

  2. Step 2

Locate the update to which you want to reply. Look at the right side of the update. You will see a star and an arrow. Click on the arrow to start your reply.

  3. Step 3

Click into the "Update" box. You will see that the box now has "@username" in it. Type your reply after this entry. When you've finished typing your reply, click "Update."

  4. Step 4

Check your Twitter homepage to verify that the reply shows up. You can also verify that the reply has been sent by clicking on the user's name and viewing her Twitter page.

Tips & Warnings
  • Instead of clicking the reply arrow, you can also manually type "@username" followed by your reply in the "Update" box, where "username" is the user to whom you want to reply.
  • You can also use a third-party desktop client, such as Twhirl, to send a reply on Twitter. Twhirl is a desktop client for Twitter, based on the Adobe AIR platform. Download Twhirl from the Twirl website.
