Footbag develops agility and coordination and is a fine game to play alone or with friends. The small footbag, or hacky sack, is about two inches in diameter and can be made of soft leather or woven cotton and filled with beads or sand.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Footbags
  1. Step 1

Gather players in a circle about four or five feet across.

  2. Step 2

Serve the hacky sack to any player by tossing it gently, about waist high.

  3. Step 3

Keep the footbag in the air using any part of the body but your arms or hands.

  4. Step 4

Pass the hacky sack back and forth around the circle of players for as long as possible.

Tips & Warnings
  • When each player in the circle kicks the footbag at least once, it is known as a "hack." Kicking it twice is a "double hack." Three times is a "triple hack," and so on.
  • The feet, chest, head, shoulders and knees can all be used to control a hacky sack.
  • If a player touches a hacky sack with arms or hands, it "kills" the hack, and game must be restarted.
  • Avoid heavy boots in case you accidentally kick another player.

on 7/1/2009 I use dragonfly footbags... they have a good selection for any kind of footbag you need. Also i where suede shoes casue it makes my bags stall better. I freestyle alot. Barefoot of open tounge lace is the best.

on 8/8/2006 In my opinion, either mesh or running shoes are the best to play hackysack. If you want to step up a notch, go barefoot and try to hackysack. Play in a safe area! Trust me, I had to learn the hard way!

on 7/3/2006 I've been playing hack for quite some time now, and honestly you want loose shoes so there is more of a flat surface to hit or stall on. It also creates a soft cushion, so stalls are much easier. I myself take the first couple of laces out.

on 3/17/2006 I am glad that there is so much respect in these posts. Since everyone is one all of these subjects; I must agree, Rod Lavers are really good. I prefer New Balance and Adidas All-Stars. It's just personal preference though. Honestly, it is what feels right for the individual.

Stretching is extremely important to hack, injury is one thing that can take this sport away from you. If I can injure my back; as I have, and I stretch, you can definitely injure yourself if you don't.

Shorts are good also, they leave you with less restrictions and more flexibility.

on 3/12/2006 Easy does it. Do not ever get mad! And go easy on the combos. It will be worse if you hit the bag wrong than if you never hit it. And one big thing is: Never do combos that you know you can't do. Getting mad at yourself will make you lose, which will get you mad even more!
