Long term relationships are difficult to maintain. It takes sincere and genuine effort by both parties involved in the relationship. If you want your relationship to last, there are things you can do to help make it happen. Work to have a happy, healthy long term relationship that satisfies both you and your partner.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Communicate effectively. Successful long term relationships cannot involve guessing games. Tell your partner your needs and listen to his. Discuss relationship problems respectfully rather than arguing. Seek resolution to conflict rather than letting unacknowledged problems get worse.
Step2
Commit to your partner. Put your partner first. Try not to work excessive hours at the office. Avoid spending too much time away from your partner. Schedule quality time that both of you can share and enjoy.
Step3
Keep common interests. It's easy to grow apart in the long term if you have nothing in common. Find a hobby you both enjoy or a cause you both support. Seek common ground and stay connected.
Step4
Make frequent physical contact. Simple physical contact such as hugging, kissing and holding hands keeps intimacy alive in a long term relationship. Find physical ways to express your affection to your partner daily.
Step5
Maintain your physical appearance. Looks aren't everything, but when you keep up your physical appearance, you keep your partner interested. Try to look your best with a healthy diet, exercise and a positive attitude.
Step6
Be spontaneous. It's easy to get bored in a long term relationship. Keep your partner's attention. Plan a spontaneous romantic trip, surprise her with tickets to a concert or wow her with a sexy new outfit.
