At some point you may decide to go with a different email provider and will need to close your MSN account. Most accounts can be deleted online without the need to contact customer service. If you have a Hotmail account, you can close it the same way.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to the MSN homepage. You're going to need to log in with your email address and password prior to closing your account.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "Options" menu at the top of the page. You'll then find a link to go to your account summary. Select the MSN account you wish to close from the list of accounts you currently have through the service.

  3. Step 3

Select "Close my MSN Account" from the list of account options. You'll then be redirected to a page that allows you to close your account. You'll have to verify that you wish to close the account and complete a short survey about the reasons for closing the account.

  4. Step 4

Print out a copy of the cancellation notice for your records. After verifying cancellation, print out the page to keep in your files. Hold onto this document in case you're mistakenly billed for the MSN account during the next billing cycle.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're unable to close your MSN or Hotmail account online, you'll have to contact Customer Support about the issue. Find a link for this department on the Microsoft website (see Resources below).
  • If you wish to cancel your MSN account, you should plan to do it prior to your scheduled renewal. MSN automatically renews your account on an annual basis after sending you an email notification.
