How to Change a Display Name in Yahoo! Messenger

Part of the fun of the Internet is the anonymity one can experience. In real life your name might be Joe, but on the Web it's "LivesForAdventureGuy." Well here are some tips on how you can change your display name when you are inside Yahoo! messenger chatting with friends and family.

Things You’ll Need:

• Yahoo! messenger account

1. Sign in to Yahoo! messenger using your user ID and password.
2. Press the "Messenger" tab on the page.
3. Click onto the "My Profiles" tab.
4. Hit the "Create/Edit" tab on the page.
5. Scroll through the list of your Yahoo! Messenger ID and any alias names which you've created. On this page you can add or delete names and aliases by simply clicking on the appropriate tab.
6. Set the appropriate display name to "Default." Once you've decided which name you want to be displayed on Yahoo! Messenger, make sure you set that as your "Default" name.
7. Click "Apply" followed by "OK" on the following prompts and you will have successfully changed your display name in Yahoo! Messenger.

Tips & Warnings

• Under the "My Profiles" link, you can also update your contact information as well as your name and address.
• You can link your Yahoo! Messenger account to other devices you own. For instance, your Yahoo! Messenger account can be pulled up on most Web-enabled cell phones. This will keep you in contact with your Yahoo! Messenger group everywhere you go.
• Make sure you tell friends and family that your online Yahoo! Messenger alias has changed. Otherwise they may not know who is trying to chat with them.
