How to Buy Mascara Wands
When it comes to accenting your eyes with dramatic lashes, you need to think about more than the bottle. Mascara isn't just about colors or even about their chemical formula. An important facet in eye-makeup wear is the application. Using the correct mascara wand greatly enhances the art of the makeup. Knowing the look you want to achieve allows you to decide which wand to buy. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Play around with the look you want by experimenting with various disposable wands before you buy a regular one. A brush with short bristles at both ends and long bristles down the middle enables you to use a thicker-than-usual coat of mascara so it makes thin lashes look lustrous (see Resources below).
-
2
Avoid clumps in mascara by using a mascara brush with bristles further apart so it acts like a comb. To make lashes appear longer, use a cone-shaped mascara wand.

3
Add curl to your lashes with a curved wand. Use a thin wand to avoid too much application of mascara, which could inhibit your curl.
-
4
Create an illusion of volume in your lashes by using a wand with flexible bristles. Stroke mascara on carefully from root to tip.
-
5
Look for wands that are dual purpose when you're ready to buy. Some mascara wands not only apply mascara but are used to separate lashes after application. The Spinlash is an example of a mascara wand that slowly rotates with the press of a button (see Resources below).
