Take a ride on the waves without a board and surf with your body. Body surfing takes plenty of effort and skill to master. With a few pointers and a lot of practice, you can ride the waves like a pro.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Bring a friend when you head out to body surf to be on the safe side.

  2. Step 2

Look for a beach that is not crowded with surfers and sunbathers so you won't be in anyone's way. Find a beach that is free from rocks and debris. When you arrive pick a spot next to lifeguards.

  3. Step 3

Wade or swim out to the area where the waves begin to break. Catch a wave that is just beginning to crash for the easiest way to ride.

  4. Step 4

Dodge the bad waves by diving down under them and swimming up to the other side. Save your energy by trying to surf only the best waves.

  5. Step 5

Swim hard towards the beach when the wave starts to crest. Swim as fast as you can so that you will be able to get on top of the wave and ride it.

  6. Step 6

Kick as hard as you can once you are on top of the wave. Steer your body with your arms. Steer at a slight angle to the wave for a longer ride.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear flippers when you body surf to swim faster and have greater control.
  • Be considerate of other swimmers and body surfers. Don't catch a wave that someone else is riding.
