How to Stop Twitter Notifications
Twitter has the ability to notify users of incoming updates via cell phone or instant messaging programs. There are times when it isn't convenient to receive Twitter notifications. In addition, you may decide you want to stop Twitter notifications from a particular user. Fortunately you can customize the Twitter notification feature.

Log in to Twitter. Select "Settings" from the Twitter menu.

Select "Devices." This is where you input your cell phone or instant messaging program information.

Pick "Off" from the "Device Updates" drop-down menu. If you want to receive notifications only for direct messages, select "Direct Messages."

Configure the hours during which you do not wish to receive updates, if you want to stop Twitter notifications during a specific time.

Navigate to a user's Twitter page if you wish to stop Twitter notifications from just that person.

Click the "Device Updates" button, which is next to the "Following" button. Select the "Off" radio button to stop Twitter notifications.

Tips & Warnings
You can turn notifications off from your cell phone by replying to a notification with "Off." Reply to a notification with "On" to turn notifications back on.
Applications based on the Twitter API, such as Twhirl, may have another way to manage your notifications. Consult the application's documentation to find out.
Twitter notifications on your cell phone accrue charges the way any other text message does. Check with your cell phone provider to be certain how many text messages you can send and receive on your current plan.
