Straight hair reflects light, giving it a luxurious shine. Curly hair refracts light rays, thereby giving the hair a dry or dull look. Curly hair isn't any less healthy than straight hair, it is simply due to the bend of the hair strand that it appears to lack luster and shine. Here are some tips to give your curly locks shimmer and shine.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mink oil shampoo
  • Mink oil conditioner
  • Mink oil hair glosser
  • Towel

Use Mink Oil for the Best Shine

  1. Step 1

Use mink oil shampoo when washing your hair. Mink oil contains palmitoleic acid, an ingredient that restores sheen and luster to both hair and skin. Wash your hair according to the instructions on the bottle.

  2. Step 2

Rinse your hair and apply mink oil conditioner. Mink oil will nourish your hair and restore moisture to your hair. It will lock in the moisture increasing the amount of shine in your curls when your hair is dry. Apply conditioner according to the instructions on the bottle.

  3. Step 3

Rinse conditioner from your hair and towel dry. It is best to scrunch hair with a towel once it is 90 percent dry. Using a clean towel, dry the hair and then scrunch the curls.

  4. Step 4

Blow dry hair carefully. It is not a good idea to blow dry curls because they will look frizzy. Air drying curls is always best. However, if you are pressed for time or insist on blow drying your curls then use a low setting on your blow dryer and attach a diffuser. This will protect your curls from high heat which will cause them to frizz. Towel dry hair until it is 90 percent dry and then use the blow dryer on its lowest setting.

  5. Step 5

Apply a hair glosser that contains mink oil. Another product that gives curly hair excellent shine is gloss and sheen products used for African-American braids. These products contain mink oil and numerous other natural herbal ingredients. Take the hair glosser and lightly mist curls according to the product's instructions.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a deep conditioning product at least once a month.
  • Never use hair glosser or other products around an open flame or while smoking. These products are highly flammable.
  • Always follow the manufacturer's instructions when using hair care products.
