Things You'll Need:
- Glass of water
- Paper bag
- One teaspoon of dry sugar
-
Step 1
Try holding your breath. Inhale deeply and hold in the air as long as you can, without passing out.
-
Step 2
If step one does not work, try making yourself burp. This may be able to get any air you might have swallowed out of your windpipe and stop your hiccups.
-
Step 3
Drink a glass of water while holding your breath. This will change, or temporarily stop, your normal breathing pattern and disrupt hiccups.
-
Step 4
Breathe quickly into a paper bag. Hyperventilating into a paper bag may help you to focus on the breathing enough to stop your hiccups.
