How to Make Balloon Trees.
-
1
Determine the purpose of your balloon tree. Is it for an event? Is it to be used as a table decoration? Is it for a friend's birthday? The purpose of the tree will have an impact on some of the decisions that you will make when planning your balloon tree.
-
2
Make some general decisions about how you want your balloon tree to look, including the size you want to make it, the colors and shapes of the balloons you want to use, whether anything else will be used on the tree along with the balloons, and how you want to attach the balloons to the tree. These decisions may be impacted by the the event or purpose for the tree, assigned color schemes, or any number of factors. All of these much be taken into consideration in this initial planning stage.

3
Sketch out how you want your balloon tree to look once sompleted. If you are using multi-colored balloons, you might want to do the sketch in the same colors so that you get a real "feel" for how the end product will look.
-
4
Make a list of all the materials you will need in order to complete your balloon tree. If you don't have everything on hand, now is the time to make your needed purchases. Free standing tree bases made from paper, metal, and other fibers can be found at most craft stores. However, if you cannot find a tree base in the size that you need, consider finding one in your own yard. All you need is a tree branch with enough limbs to fill out your balloon tree. Secure it in a clay pot or other container with soil, gravel, or rocks and you are ready to make your tree. Paint your tree if you need it to be a certain color, using ordinary spray paint.
-
5
Lay out all of your supplies and begin putting your tree together.
-
6
Blow up the balloons you will use on your tree. Tie each bottom and further secure it with a rubber band.
-
7
Attach the balloons to the tree using your sketch as a guideline. This can be done with additional rubber bands, twist ties, ribbon, or anything else you want to use. Be careful not to place balloons where they will be damaged or popped by nearby branches. Distribute the weight evenly so that the tree doesn't become too heavy on one side or another. Cover up the attachment materials with ribbon or other materials of your choice.
-
8
Fill in the remainder of the tree, if you so desire, with other items of your choice. For example, for a birthday, you might fill it in with small stuffed animals or different types of colorful candies. For a get well wish, you might fill it in with silk flowers and/or greenery. For a wine tasting event, you might drape groups of faux grapes from the tree. For Halloween, hang some faux ghosts from the limbs. Be creative and come up with your own unique design.

9
Finish off the tree with a bow, card, or anything else you want to add to complete the design.

Tips & Warnings
Be creative. The only limitation here is your own imagination.
Use different sizes and shapes of balloons to make the tree more interesting.
Scent the balloons or other items with a touch of essential oil of your choice.
Never place your balloon tree near open flame or sharp objects that could damage it.
Avoid using accessories with sharp points on your tree as they could result in the tree being damaged or ruined.
There is no need to use helium to blow up balloons for your tree, although you can if you want some of the balloons to go up rather than down.
